Musicals Review:

Wicked
To class a musical as the best thing since Les Miserables is quite a statement but i have to say... I'd go and see it again in a flash and i plan to in the new year! The impressive machanical dragon hanging above the stage, that greets you into the theatre itself sets the scene for a fantastic adventure of wizardry! The prodution itself is amazing to watch... if anything.. there was too much to watch which is why i need to go back as soon as possible to see it again! Idina Menzal was fantastic... her stage presence is perfect to take on the leading role from her broadway performance as 'Elpheda' and her voice was truly amazing. I left the theatre wanting to order my ticket for the following nights performance and i must have held my composure to burst into tears all the way back to the hotel before breaking down in the lift. The songs had a hidden meaning for me and the story was very clever in the way it showed how someones appearance or equality can be disriminated against when judged by the magority. In the case of the Witch... the colour of her skin. All in all, i have to say that this musical truly is WICKED!

The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the OperaThe Phantom of the Opera is a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the novel The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. It was later adapted into a 2004 motion picture of the same name co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher, starring Gerard Butler with Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson.

The musical, like the novel and other adaptations, focuses on the naïve singer Christine Daaé as she is seduced by a disfigured musical genius known as "The Phantom of the Opera". The Phantom lives underneath an Opera house and terrorizes those who work there, demanding Christine be the star of the theatre's productions. When the young singer rebuffs the Phantom's advances and her lover Raoul intervenes, the Phantom sets no limitations in his quest for revenge and Christine's love.

To date, it is the highest-grossing entertainment event of all time, with total worldwide box office takings of over £1.8bn ($3.2bn). Having premiered in 1988, it is currently the longest running show on Broadway, surpassing another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Cats.

The Phantom!
By Jade Walken, June 24th 2008

I first saw The Phantom of the Oprea (TPOTO) when I was tweleve and i loved it, now i am thirty and i still love it. The special affects and lighting, in particular the chandelier crash, create the picture of the 19th century Paris oprea house. The music was the most entrancing part of the musical. When you listen to the performers, your eyes become dazed and you can feel the passion of the lyrics and the actors.
